The final product

Here is an example of what they will be using our prints from my for. I really like the final outcome of these lampshades and how they look different from every angle.

Fun projects

One of my tasks since being here at Signature Prints was to print a variety of Florence Broadhurst designs onto different fabrics to create a backing-cloth look. It was a really fun task and I used lots of different printing techniques to achieve the best effects, like smearing with my hands, using sponges and different pressures with various squeegees. Below is an example of the first completed backing cloth.

Sightseeing

So far during my stay in Sydney, I have done quite a bit of exploring. I've been whale watching, to Taronga Zoo, on a coastal walk from Bondi beach to Coogee beach, to the Chinese Garden of Friendship, to Bondi and Paddington markets and lots more. Below are some photos of my favourite moments here.

I love printing!

For the past week and a half at Signature Prints, I've been working in production which means I've gotten myself back into the screen printing routine. Last week I concentrated mainly on printing wallpapers, which I was really pleased about because I haven't had that much experience in that area compared to fabric.

So in the past week I've helped print over 600 metres of fabric and 50 metres of fabric. My muscles are so sore now though, I need to get back into the routine of printing every day again!

Below are examples of two of the collections that I have been helping to print onto wallpaper and fabric.

Ikeda in Tundra Pond from the Origins Collection.

Sydney!

So a few of you know where I am at the moment, but for those I haven't told, I'm in Sydney! I arrived here on the 14th and started an internship with Signature Prints on the 19th and will be there until the end of October. I really love it here already, although it's pretty much been raining every day since I arrived. I'm learning so much with Signature Prints and everyone is so helpful. I love the atmosphere there and how it's all based in a factory where the production and front of house are combined together. I feel really lucky to have received this internship because they do exactly what I want to achieve myself when I am older. At the moment, I am working in front of house dealing with orders and working on the website and in 6 weeks I will be working in production helping to hand print the designs using silk screens from their massive collection. Here are a few pictures that I managed to take of the front of house and factory and I'm sure I'll be adding more as the weeks progress, along with a few Sydney sights!

Presents

After I handed in my project, I decided to use two of my designs to make scarves for gifts for my mum and my friend for their birthdays courtesy of Fabpad, who printed the pieces on to silk chiffon for me and I then hemmed them. I wanted to make personal presents for them this year because I felt like I needed another mini project after completing my degree. Here's some photos of them below, unfortunately I didn't get any of them modelling them!

The end of my degree

Right, time to update you all on what's been happening. I finished my degree in June after a very tiring year of birds! My final major project, as I've mentioned in earlier posts, was called 'Come Fly With Me', where I created designs for both wallpaper and fabric repeats. Here's my complete collection for you to look at.

More prints to show you

I've been busy sampling this week as well as printing my length so I've been very busy! I'm really happy with how this design has turned out. Some prints haven't worked out as well as I'd have hoped, but I definitely think that I've chosen the right sample to re-create for my final piece. Below are some of my samples.

And here is my final piece.

I'm now on my Easter holidays so I'm going back to developing some more final designs and koda traces ready for printing when I get back.

Finally the last length

Today I printed my third and final wallpaper length. I'm glad I've managed to get them out of the way before Easter comes so I have time to focus on my samples. I am really pleased with this print, I think that it's worked the best out of the three. Also, thank you to Tanya and Steph for helping me with these prints!

Developing and digital printing

At the moment I am working on my koda traces for two designs, whilst printing two others. Koda traces are really time consuming so I'm glad I've only decided to do two colours for this print below. I can't wait to get back in that print room next week.

This was my first time digitally printing onto fabric so it was quite exciting seeing how it all worked. I'm really pleased with the outcome of my prints too.
